Artist Statement
I enjoy recreating the natural process by creating the randomness of disintegration during this entropic process. I also reintroduce the human element in my paintings by adding highly abstracted figurative or landscaped imagery in many of them to add to the personal meaning of each piece.
Conversely, in an attempt to create a brand new experience for the viewer, I reverse the entropic process with LED lights. Using additional layers of color and composition in my tiered paintings, I take a piece that looks as if it's disintegrating and make it come alive by showing a reordering into abstracted representational imagery.
If I have done my job well, people will begin to see the beauty of decay, erosion, and disintegration in our everyday world, understanding that an object is merely entering a new state of being that is just beautiful and engaging.
